thoughts on Miley, since everyone has them

So I just did that thing where you watch one video on YouTube and then an hour goes by, and you think, "Why do you I care so much about these people I don't know?" I watched one interview with Miley where she was throwing around the beloved words of our American culture of "self expression" and "free of judgement." After watching this one video, I proceeded to click on the next and the next and after a disturbing one minute viewing of "Wrecking Ball" I called it quits to write this blog post. The first interview I watched is what I mostly want to focus on, because I think it was quite strategic. Cyrus appeared on ABC news to talk about her recently new self. They placed a lot of young girls in the front which I found interesting, because I have to think that there is no way that a mother would approve of her young daughter watching Miley and looking to her as a role model anymore. Miley was charming. She talked about how her new song "Can't Stop" is inspirational because there's so much wrong in the world and we can't ever stop fighting it. This is interesting to me because the song is, in fact, about partying and being free and young - things that are actually quite self-focused rather than being about the major world issues. Here's the thing, I'm not interested in bashing Miley Cyrus as a person or calling her a sleeze or anything of the sort. But I am interested in artistic integrity and meaning what you say, not just saying something to get the public on your side. Your song isn't about world justice. It's just not. And you're not promoting that right now either. Miley's attempt to be herself and to simply express herself actually puts her in a place where no one respects her enough to listen to things that as a celebrity you some how get the platform to speak out about.
