thinny chips, y'all

Maybe I'm reading too much into this one. Or maybe it's kind of ridiculous. The other day I went to Jimmy Johns with a friend and noticed her bag of chips was called "Thinny Chips." The words play on the fact that the potato chips themselves are quite thin, but also leaves consumers feeling like these potato chips really aren't that unhealthy. I started thinking about this and about how companies do this kind of manipulating all the time. I though about coke zero, or even just the soda "Diet Coke" itself. Sure, it has no sugar. But it's not good for you. Like I said, maybe I'm reading too much into this but it certainly seems sneaky. Before this, I hadn't really considered that a bag of chips could be media, but it definitely can. It sends out a message, and they were ultimately quite strategic with it.
