Guiness
This commercial gave me goosebumps the two times that I saw it. I wanted so badly to see through the "dedication" and "loyalty" that it talks about to see the fact that they are in reality selling beer. The commercial shows a group of men all playing wheelchair basketball while Cinematic Orchestra plays beautifully in the background. It shows the comradery between them and then at the end they all stand up out of their wheelchairs except one guy. The viewer realizes that they were all playing with him so that he could be included and it's this extremely heartwarming picture of friendship. Then they all wind up at a bar and they are drinking Guinness and a deep and trustworthy voice says, "Dedication, loyalty, and friendship. The choices we make reveal the true nature of our character." Here's the thing. It's awesome. But I have to remind myself that this commercial is selling beer, not loyalty or friendship. The word choice is fascinating because loyalty makes me think of the loyalty that people have to the kind of beer that they like. Even "the choices we make..." insinuates that the choice of beer you make reveals your character as well. It's just interesting to me to pick apart these commercials that really do get to me and remember what it is exactly that is being sold. Still, a great commercial in my opinion.
